When a verb is in the middle voice, the subject of the verb both performs and is affected by the action.

Examples

• ἐπαιτεῖν αἰσχύνομαι
  I am ashamed to beg.
• Ἐπιστάτα ἐπιστάτα ἀπολλύμεθα
  Master, master, we are dying!
