Grammar / Case / Nominative

The subject of a verb uses the nominative case. Typically, this is whoever or whatever is performing the verb's action.

Example

  • ἠγάπησεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν κόσμον.
    God loved the world.
God is nominative here because God is the subject of the verb "love". That is, God is performing the love, not receiving the love.
