Grammar / Case / Accusative

The object of a verb uses the accusative case. Typically, this is whoever or whatever is receiving the verb's action.

Example

  • ἠγάπησεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν κόσμον.
    God loved the world.
The world is accusative here because it is the object of the verb "love". That is, the world is receiving the love, not performing the love.
